Most British now use social networks

"Overall, 57 per cent of adults have used social networks this year, compared to 43 per cent in 2010. The finding came as part of the ONS’ annual survey of British internet habits, which also showed that women are somewhat more enthusiastic about online friendships than men. Some 60 per cent of women said they use social networks, compared to 54 per cent of men."
The striking fact here is that now over half of adults in the UK are using social networks on line. As we reported yesterday this is happening at the same time as mobile internet is growing.

We see the rise of the mobile internet and social networks as Web 3.0.

The key change that is happening to the Internet is the extension of how information is created and consumer in the web. The web is moving from a datacentric world of 1999 to the web as a social space.

Today already half of the users of the web are forming social networks on the web in developed countries like the UK. Further about a quarter of users are potentially online everywhere.

This is creating a web that connects people not only to data and media they want, but also to community they belong to, and does it around the clock.
