HP are coming out with a new tablet. No big news there, as everyone and their brother (and sister) seems to be coming out with one these days. But this one is going to have its own OS. HP see their OS as a huge differentiator. Now, this OS is not totally new, it is in fact based on the Palm OS that HP acquired some time ago. It's not a stab in the dark, then, but:
As you can see from the graphic, Palm OS is not exactly on the map when it comes to market share.
Can HP do it? We'll have to see. It seems like a bit of a long shot. Then again, HP have many huge corporate customers who may well take on these tablets -- which will sell for between £400 and £479 in the UK -- for their employees.
