We are tracking the Tweeting intensity in a number of major sites in the North of England. So far Manchester and Birmingham are far below the levels last night, indicating the streets are much emptier and quieter. In outlaying areas were we saw some elevated tweeting earlier we are seeing things as much lower.
The is no requirement that people who are about to riot tweet. But we have noticed that in public disturbances like riots or demonstrations tweeting rises mostly on by onlookers and concerned people in the community communicating. We are seeing neither of these on twitter or in the hash tags. At about 8pm local time we have not seen one photo of any disturbances in London posted on twitter.
